China will build about 10,000 kilometers of intercity and suburban railways in the beijing-tianjin-hebei, Yangtze River Delta and Guangdong-hong Kong-macao Bay area in the next five years, the National Development and Reform Commission said Thursday. Relevant officials of the National Development and Reform Commission said that the Beijing-tianjin-hebei, Yangtze River Delta and Guangdong-hong Kong-macao Bay area are important urban agglomerations and metropolitan areas in China, and that the development of a modern and comprehensive transportation network with rail transportation as its backbone, the conditions are ripe and the demand is urgent. Speeding up the construction of intercity railway and suburban railway is an important support to realize the coordinated development of the three regions and an inevitable measure to make up the regional comprehensive transportation shortage.
